I
promised to post the cover for my February 2008
Silhouette Desire,
Dante's Blackmailed Bride, as soon as
it became available. Well, I have it, and it's another beautiful
one! It certainly captures the glamour of the setting--San Francisco
(my old stomping grounds). It also captures the passion that imbues
the book--that sense of love at first sight. For an overview of
The Dantes Legacy
series, click on the link in this sentence.
I
also just finished an interview for Japan, Harlequin
which will be released in their newsletter in February. I'll post
their questions and my responses at the same time.
Finally,
I just returned from a truly fabulous workshop put on by
Washington Romance Writers, featuring Michael Hauge.
He discussed the Inner and Outer Journey of the hero and I found it
absolutely fascinating. But then, I'm fascinated by any program that
talks about writing!
If
you have any questions or would like to see something new on my website,
don't hesitate to
email me!
November 3, 2007
I
can't believe it's November, already!
Until our brush with Hurricane Noel yesterday, it's continued to be in the
70s and humid. Then Noel graced us with some heavy duty winds and
knocked out our power. Par for the course on our little island.
I've learned long ago to make lemonade when those lemons start pelting
you. So, off we went for Chinese take-out. We lit candles all
over the living and dining room and my husband and I ate by candlelight.
It was very romantic! Then we curled up together and read, also by
candlelight.
It's
amazing to me how quiet it is without the hum and white noise of
electronics, not to mention the constant blare of a TV. It gives
your mind time to settle. We've decided to have one night a week
like that. Just quiet conversation, candlelight, time for thoughts
and discussion without the distraction of computer, phones, or TV.
Maybe most of you already do that and we've just gotten lazy. But
it's truly a wonderful experience, one I highly recommend.
I'm
currently in the middle of writing the third book in
The Dante Legacy
series. (For an overview of the series, click on the above link.)
It's Nicolò's story,
Dante's Wedding Deception, and
will be out July 2008. I've having a lot of fun writing it.
It's an amnesia story with a twist! I have a preliminary cover for
the first book in the series,
Dante's
Blackmailed Bride (February 2008). It's quite
appealing, but not quite ready to post. The minute I get the final
copy, I'll put it up. I do have an excerpt available at the above
link, as well as for the second book in the series,
Dante's Stolen
Wife (May 2008), which is Marco's story.
The
October winner for my monthly contest is posted on my
Contest & Alert
page. Congratulations to Nathalie!
October 17, 2007

Before
giving you the latest (long overdue) update, please let me remind all
women out there that it's
Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
As a seven year breast cancer survivor, this cause is near and dear to my
heart. If you are over forty and haven't gotten your annual
mammogram, please get it now! The key to survival is
early detection. So, don't postpone, don't bury your head in the
sand, don't allow fear to delay regular exams. Pretending there
isn't a problem does not make it go away. Also, please
follow the above link to the Breast Cancer Awareness site and "click" to
give a free mammogram to women who can't afford one.. To read my own
personal story about recovering creativity after breast cancer, please
visit the
Pink Heart Society site, where I'm a
guest blogger for Wednesday, October 17th.
Welcome
to autumn! We're still waiting for it to show up here in North
Carolina. As I write this, it's in the mid-seventies, heading toward
eighty and (I can't believe I'm saying this) we're flirting with the idea
of turning the air conditioning back on. Usually October on the
Outer Banks is cool, low humidity, with the most spectacular sunsets of
any other time of the year. I suspect this year we'll go directly
from A/C to heat! But I have to admit, I'm enjoying this final blast
of summer.
Last
week was fantastic! I had a writers' retreat with two incredible
writers...Carolyn Greene and Kathy Jorgensen. I can't think of a
better place than our little island for sparking creativity. We
spent five days together brainstorming, discussing roadblocks that crop up
in life and how to successfully navigate around them, discussed business
updates and personal issues. You name it, we talked about it..
We played a little, worked a lot, ate waaaaay too much. Dinners were
by candlelight--after all, we are romance writers. We had an
occasional glass of wine and one evening watched a glorious sunset over
the Albemarle Sound off my mom's deck. We ate (mostly) healthy
food--and yes, chocolate counts as healthy! We had fruit smoothies
courtesy of Carolyn's smoothie machine each afternoon. And we
watched Pink Panther movies late at night after learning that Carolyn had
never watched one! It was a week of female bonding and it was the
absolute best! I highly recommend a retreat of this sort with the
women closest to you, even if you aren't a writer.
So,
what's up on the writing front? I was stunned to be told (by
fabulous Desire author
Tessa Radley) that my September
Desire,
The Billionaire's Baby Negotiation
hit #1 on the Waldenbooks/Border list! And my NASCAR book,
Old Flame,
New Sparks was offered as a "digital sampler" on both the
NASCAR website, as well the eHarlequin site.
Coming
up next are the first two books (of four) in
The Dante
Legacy. Both are in and
have been approved. This series of four books, all out in 2008,
introduces the Dante brothers who discover (to their shock) that there's a
family "blessing" (or is it a curse?!?) that strikes when they first touch
their soul mates. Called "The Inferno" it causes endless
complications for the Dante men. The first book,
Dante's
Blackmailed Bride, will be out February 2008 and features
eldest brother Severo Dante who experiences The Inferno with his
competitor's daughter.. Book two,
Dante's Stolen
Wife, is one of my all-time favorites (as well as my
editor's). Marco Dante feels The Inferno for the woman who belongs
to his twin brother, Lazzaro. His solution? Pretend to be his
brother until he has his bride wedded and bedded! This book will be
released in May 2008. I'm currently working on the third book,
Nicolò's story, which now has a title:
Dante's
Wedding Deception. It'll be released in July 2008.
And finally I'll be writing Lazz's story,
Dante's Contract Marriage, a
October '08 Silhouette Desire.
Contest winners are listed
on my Contest
& Alerts page. Congratulations to those who have won
books! Please take the time to enter again. In addition to my
contest page, I've also updated the following pages:
New Releases,
The Dante
Legacy,
Dante's Blackmailed Bride,
Dante's Stolen
Wife,
Dante's Wedding Deception,
Dante's
Contract Marriage,
Silhouette Desire,
Backlist, and
my Biography
page.
I do apologize for the
lengthy times between updates. I do all the work myself, so I have
to fit it in between deadlines. But hang in there! I do get it
updated whenever I have the chance.
August 22, 2007
My
latest update will be delayed a little longer due to a full system
computer crash. That combined with a September 4th deadline will
keep me from updating my website for a few more weeks.
Please bear with me!
I continue to appreciate all your emails. If you haven't received a
response to either an email, a contest entry, or an "alert" request,
please resend your email. I lost approximately 200 in the crash.
My NASCAR/Harlequin
romance,
Old Flame,
New Sparks
is now on the shelves. And my next Silhouette Desire,
The Billionaire's Baby Negotiation,
will be out the second week in September. Contest winners for July
and August will be updated when I update in early October.
Bottom line...you gotta
laugh. It's so much better than the alternative. Take care
until September! Day
June
23, 2007
As
you can see, I have a new look to my website which I hope looks less like
an accountant put it together, and more like a romance author. I
also hope the pages will load a little faster for those who still have
dial-up versus high-speed internet access. Thank you again for all your
emails over the past couple months. They've been much appreciated.
If you haven't received a response, please be patient. I hope to be
fully caught up by next Sunday. I'm doing much better, and now that
my thyroid issues are behind me, I intend to keep it that way! Now,
on to the latest news....
The
first book in
The Dante Legacy
(the name for my 2008 series for Silhouette Desires) is written and in.
It's titled
Dante's Blackmailed
Bride. Today I'll be
finishing up the synopsis for the second story in the series,
Dante's Stolen Wife.
I start the new book Monday morning, and can't wait! This series is
so much fun to write.
Check
out the recently updated
Contest & Alerts page. All the
winners are officially posted. Most have already received their
books. If you're name is posted, and you don't have your book, yet,
(with the exception of those who've requested one of my
New Releases),
please email
me. I'm running a brand new contest for July, and the
winner can choose between a free autographed copy of my NASCAR book,
Old Flame,
New Sparks...or September's Silhouette Desire
The Billionaire's Baby Negotiation.
That's the one with the incredibly gorgeous cover!
Beginning
this month, I'll be starting up a "questions" section again. You
have a question, I'll try and answer, so feel free to
email me!
I'll post both the question and answer as part of my
Hey, Guess What?!?
comments each month. So here's the latest question...
Question
from Cindy R: "Do you plan your books before you write them, or
does it just come out as you write?"
Answer:
Great question, Cindy. Different writers do it in different ways.
There's no one "right" way. Nora Roberts, for instance, is a
seat-of-the-pants writer. I'm not. I'm a planner. I come
up with a general story idea (like the premise for
The Dante Legacy)
and then develop blurbs, just like the ones I've used to describe the
Dante books. I then develop the story from there, writing a 5-10
page synopsis. Once I have the synopsis, I create scenes for each
chapter. This gives me a plan from which I write the book. By
creating synopsis and scenes (plot), I'm free to focus on character
development, emotion, motivation, and all the other elements that go into
writing a book.
Finally,
for those of you in the Dallas, Texas area, Romance Writers of America
will be hosting a "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing at the Hyatt
Regency featuring more than 450 of your most beloved romance authors, who
will be on hand to sign their latest books. The funds go to various
literacy charities. To date, RWA has raised in excess of $500,000.
If you're in the area, I hope you'll join us. It's Wednesday, July
11th between the hours of 5:30 and 7:30 PM. I hope to see you there!
June 10, 2007
Hot
off the presses! The cover for
The
Billionaire's Baby Negotiation just hit my inbox and it's
absolutely gorgeous. Take a look and see if you don't agree!
I'm
busy plotting the second of the Dante Legacy books (Marco's story) and
it's coming together in very intriguing ways. I'm having a wonderful
time with my writing buddies and can't wait to get home and get to
work...and of course (!) update more of my website.
June 1, 2007
Okay,
so if any of you ever decide to have thyroid problems, I have a suggestion
for you. Don't!
I'm not kidding. Scroll down and
look at the last time I posted. See that ancient February 26th date?
Two days after I posted that update I went in for a quick surgery to take
out part of my thyroid in order to see what was going on with it.
Good grief! There was nothing seriously wrong. I just tend
toward benign nodules, but they didn't get my thyroid numbers straightened
out until the end of April! Guess what I did between the end of
February and the end of April?
Nothing! I kid you not, I can't
even remember those months. I slept them away, occasionally coming
conscious long enough to eat and take naps. Needless to say, no
writing, no website updates, email is still sitting in my inbox.
When I finally woke up, I had a book due the end of May and pulled out all
the stops to focus exclusively on that.
Well
guess what? Book is now done and in. Brain is functioning
again. (Doctor isn't walking too straight since he didn't give me
any warning and didn't correct the problem sooner, but that's another
story!) So here's my request... Please hang in there.
I'm away this next week for a brainstorming and work week with several
other writers. When I get back, I'll give top priority to updating
the website. So, please check back periodically and I'll announce
what's new and where to find the latest info.
Until
then, let me just give you a brief rundown of upcoming events. First
up, two books coming up soon. In
August
my Harlequin/NASCAR book,
Old Flame, New Sparks will be released. I have an official cover for the book.
You can see it on my home page, as well as the individual page for this
book. Just click on the title above and you'll go right there.
I'll be posting an excerpt in the coming weeks. Then in
September
is my 4th Silhouette Desire for the year,
The
Billionaire's Baby Negotiation. This book has a
slight connection to The Royals trilogy. Don't worry if you haven't
read the Royal books. (Although, you missed some terrific stories!)
But you don't have to read them to enjoy Billionaire. I'll have a
cover within the next couple weeks, and I'll be offering an excerpt for
this one, as well. So, check in again soon!
Finally,
a quick, sneak preview. Coming in 2008 is
The Dante Legacy.
The first book is done and in. And I'm really excited about it!
For a preview, scroll down and you can read a short description of both
the series, as well as the first book, titled
Dante's Blackmailed Bride,
to be released in February of 2008. I'll be creating some pages for
this series over the coming weeks and will post that information here, so
come back soon.
Finally,
give me another week and I'll update the Contest page with the past couple
months' winners. Thanks so much for being so patient with both me
and my thyroid. You have no idea how good it feels to be back!
February 26, 2007
I'm enjoying my visit at
eHarlequin and hope you'll join me there where you can read the prequel to
The Royals
trilogy, entitled
The Royal Affair. I'm having
lots of fun discussing the weekly eRead on the boards, as well as posting
to a blog on the site. (Sites listed below in my February 4th
update.)
Next week I start writing a
brand new series, The Dantes. I'm really excited about the premise:
Four
sexy Italian brothers are driven to find their mate . . . No matter
what it takes or who gets in the way. It’s like a lightning bolt
from heaven . . . or is it hell? One minute your life’s your own,
and the next insanity rules. All rational thought flees. Reason is
nothing more than a fond memory. You’re consumed by a lust beyond
anything you’ve ever experienced before, every bit of it focused on
her. And there’s one all-consuming drive that takes over everything
in your life—to mate. No matter what it takes or who gets in
the way. It's the Dantes' Inferno!
The first book features, Severo
Dante. Here's a taste:
When dark and dangerous boss, Severo Dante, the eldest of the
Dante brothers, is scorched by the Dante family’s “Inferno,” he’s
horrified to discover that his soul mate, sexy, waif Francesca
Sommers, is also his chief business rival’s daughter. Sev will
use any method at his disposal—including blackmail—to get her to
leave her family business and work for Dantes, and more importantly,
get her back into his bed.
I've posted February's contest winners on my
Contests &
Alerts page a few days early because I'm about to go
out of town. Congratulations to all three winners!
February 6, 2007
My
Contests & Alerts
page is now updated, and the winners of January's contest are posted.
Best of all, their books are already in the mail! Please visit my
page and enter February's contest. To celebrate the release of my
trilogy, I'll be choosing three winners each month for the
next three months!
I'm
also running a contest on
eHarlequin. I've posted it on
the discussion thread for
The Royal Affair (post #30).
Read each chapter as it's released every Monday and send me an email
guessing the ending to the story. If you're correct, you could win
an autographed copy of the entire trilogy! Or... Guess what's
going to happen in the next exciting chapter, and you could win a copy of
The
Forbidden Princess! So
click on the above links and join the fun!
Finally,
I've continued to update my
blog,
so drop by and comment! Drop in again soon for more updates!
February 4, 2007
I've
been working to update various sections of my website to coincide with the
release of my first Silhouette Desire. So, I hope you'll take a few
minutes to wander around and explore some of the new pages. The
update will take several days as I tackle a couple pages a day (after
work!). I'll post here as new pages come online.
First
up, I have a brand new section that gives all the information you could
want about The Royals Trilogy.
I have everything from a map of Verdonia, to a complete Who's Who, to some
background information about how the trilogy came to be. I even have
a overview of the country. So, come and explore Verdonia!
Have
you visited
eHarlequin recently? I have a
really fun serial story available there and it's the prequel to The Royals
trilogy. It's an eight part story, a new chapter released each
Monday from January 29th through March 19th. Tomorrow the second
chapter will be released, but if you missed the first one, it's there
waiting for you! Best of all, it's free! Start your Mondays
with a chapter of
The Royal Affair.
And
after you're finished reading the latest chapter in my serial, feel free
to drop in and discuss the story with other readers. You can find
the discussion group on eHarlequin in the Silhouette "chat" section.
Just
Finally,
eHarlequin has given me a
blog
for the month of February. I'm posting interesting tidbits there
every few days, so feel free to stop by and comment!
December
31, 2006
A
belated happy holidays!
Wow, has it been an interesting couple of months. Work has been at
the top of my list since I last posted and I've been writing flat out,
even Christmas day. But that is going to change! I've decided
that I don't enjoy spending every minute on my laptop, working so many
hours. You forget what life is all about and my number one New
Year's resolution is to put more balance in my life! What's yours?
Book news!
I
have all my release dates for 2007 published on the "home" portion of my
webpage, so be sure to check it out. One of the really cool
opportunities I received (and one of the reasons I was working through the
holidays) was the chance to write a short story for the eHarlequin
website. The producer of eHarlequin asked if I'd write a Desire-type
story using some of the secondary characters in The Royals trilogy.
Naturally, I leaped at the chance. This is a free short story,
available to everyone who visits the eHarlequin website. So,
starting on Monday, January 29th, you can read the first chapter in an
eight part serial that kicks off my trilogy! As we get closer to
that date, I'll put up the link.
And
how cool is this...?!? I also have three absolutely fabulous covers
for my Silhouette Desires. What do you think of them? After
the eHarlequin online short story,
The
Royals Trilogy is kicking off
in February with
The Forbidden Princess.
That's followed in March with
The Prince's Mistress, and the
trilogy concludes in April with
The Royal Wedding Night.
I then have two more releases in 2007. In August of 2007 is my
NASCAR book,
Old Flame, New Sparks. Then in
September is an exclamation point to The Royals trilogy, I've written
The
Billionaire's Baby Negotiation, which features Joc Arnaud,
who you'll meet in several of The Royals Trilogy books.
One
of my goals over the next couple weeks is to create a "Verdonia" page (the
name of my fictional European country) that gives readers all sorts of
extra information about the country, the various characters, and the short
story. So, stay tuned! I'll put a link on my home page.
Enter my contest!
I
received my author copies for
the first book in
The Royals Trilogy,
The Forbidden
Princess. I'll be sending that out to January's
contest winner. So, be sure you visit my
Contest & Alerts
page and enter my latest contest. Then sign up for an alert (at the
bottom of the page) and I'll email you when my books are released.
